Our Commitment

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples hold deep knowledge of Australia's plants — knowledge developed over tens of thousands of years. MyTurboBot is committed to ensuring this knowledge is respected, protected and never exploited.

How We Protect Indigenous Knowledge

Indigenous knowledge is treated as protected, permission-based knowledge — never as public content. Our platform embeds the following protections structurally:

  • Never public by default — all Indigenous knowledge records are private until explicit permission is granted
  • Community-controlled access — each community controls who can see their records
  • Cross-community protection — one community's records are never visible to another community without explicit mutual permission
  • Field-level visibility — individual data fields can be restricted independently
  • Permission tiers — each record can be: public, private to contributor, private to community, visible to nominated project partners, or visible to core admin only

Culturally Respectful Participation

Communities who wish to contribute can do so on their own terms:

  • Upload plant knowledge linked to their own community permissions
  • Include traditional names, uses and cultural context where appropriate
  • Set visibility and access controls for every record
  • Participate in research projects only with informed consent
  • Withdraw or modify contributions at any time

Community Partnerships

MyTurboBot welcomes partnerships with:

  • Aboriginal Land Councils and community organisations
  • Indigenous ranger groups and land management programmes
  • Traditional Owner groups interested in plant documentation
  • Community-led research and cultural preservation projects
  • Educational institutions with Indigenous research programmes
